1 3½ -lb. chicken
3 tablespoons shortening (Crisco)
1 small onion
2 tablespoons vinegar
1/2 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 cup water
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup lemon juice
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
salt, pepper, paprika
Brown chicken in hot shortening. Remove from skillet.
Brown onion in shortening and then add remaining ingredients.
Simmer for about 30 minutes. Pour over browned chicken.
Bake uncovered in a moderate oven for 1 hour or until done.
Add salt, pepper and paprika as you desire while browning chicken.
